Stencil Stuff and petroleum products

During the tattoo process are you still using petroleum (Vaseline) products to protect the rest of the stencil from smearing etc. I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I've had mixed results. The guys that i'm apprenticing under use this technique and i'm not sure that this is the way to go. Any advice on petroleum products and the reason for their use and how to use them would be appreciated.

i use the a&d ointment instead of vasaline,but both work just fine,and i dont use it to protect the stencil i try and keep it off as much as possible,unless its the area im workin on or once that area has been hit,and ill put it on after its done,but its not a good idea to smear it all over the stencil.

Hey MD,

I use Vaseline for an area I´m already done with, but I see artist use it (or other products) for spots they will work on. Why? Does´nt a barrier of a substance block ink from touching or going in to the skin? I´ve even read that it´s a lubricant for the needle or the it helps from ink splatter, but it doesnt work for me, apart from making the area a bit slippery to stretch. Is it wrong to ¨tattoo dry¨?

Use Stencil Green to transfer.

When transfering let the stencil dry a little on the body, Take it of and dry for 10 minutes. Now you can rub wat you want and its not comming of.

Wow this thread was first posted back in 2007. Time flies! Now I use Redemption tattoo care when I work and it works really well and as a healing agent as well! As far as Stencil Stuff it works fantastic! You might occasionally run into a moist person or you might be tattooing in a humid area. The trick is just to use alcohol or Prep Stuff to get the skin as dry as possible before applying the stencil, but its a rare case where I find it rubbing off a little more than I like. Again, Stencil Stuff is made in a lab facility so it's clean and as safe as any product can be made. They give out free samples on tattoostuff.com, f you haven't tried it yet. Also, over the years we have made small tweaks to the formula to make it even better!
