Escher Reptile

I'm looking to get my first tattoo soon. I've been looking around for ideas for about 4-5 months now and the one i keep coming back to is from a sketch by M.C. Escher called "Reptiles". Here's a link: http://www.meridian.net.au/Art/Artists/MCEscher/Gallery/Images/escher-reptiles-medium.jpg
I was thinking about getting it done 3d climbing up my back right shoulder. So how would it work to have one customized that way? Any other tips/info is appreciated.
