Hey bro,

For standard bugpin mag you would usually go down a size. so for 9 mag BP you use a 7 Mag tube.
however there are some bugpins that have a different gauge that can cause a bit of trouble, Like for example a 8 gauge 9 mag bp would fit nicely in a 7 mag tube, but a 9 gauge 9 mag bp would be a little tight in some 7 mag tubes. some specs are slightly off in the tube choices from trutube, wrath, eikon ect...
Now when it comes to stacked mags. you need to count the bottom row of needles to determine the size of the tube so a 15 mag stack has 8 needles on the bottom and 7 on the top, so this needle grouping will fit in all 9 mag tubes and some 7 mag tubes. for a 9 mag stack, you have 5 on the bottom and 4 on the top, so this would fit nice in a 5 mag tube. Make sense? Now when you go to a bugpin stack you can go down a size again depending on the gauge of the needle. so a 11 mag bp stack has 6 needles on the bottom so you would think 7 would be good, but the bug pin stack will fit into most 5 mag tube if the gauge of the needle is 8 or 9. but a 10 gauge stack bugpin 11 would fit closer to a 7, it still might have some slop depending on the specs of the manufacture but it should be minimal.... make sense?

Hope that helps. Take care.

RE:Magnum tip sizes

The above is not true.
A bugpins is an 08 needles (also called a triple zero needle). Regulars are 12. And you get an inbetween which is 10 (also referred to as double zero.
When using the 10s it is them that fit a mag size down. So a 1009 mag fits a 7 tip. Although when using a true bugpin such as an 0811mag then usually it depends on the needle. For example, the 0811 mag fits a 7 mag tip, depending on where you buy your tips; some they fit comfortably and some they don't which is a bit of a pain. But an 0821 mag for example fits a 15 tip usually, so it usually depends on the needle size.
