Outlines with rotary

what is ya favorite machine for outlining with rotary? I am in-between a gen7 and a hyper...but i don't think they are that good for anything bigger then a 9 liner....but i found bug pin liners seem to go in easier....

What are your thoughts?

RE:Outlines with rotary

I've never used a Hyper but a Gen 7 fitted with the solid clip (as opposed to the new 'give clip') is very precise and will push anything. The machine comes with both and it's easy to change them over. I find the give clip a little soft for larger needle groups so I have machines set up with both. Because of the consistent power of the rotary style machine you can put a little more bend in your needle bar and some extra rubber band power and it will hold the needle points tight and precise in a diamond tip and still run as hard or soft as you want. I still like coils for soft shading though.

RE:Outlines with rotary

If you are a tattooer that kicks ass with your line work with a traditional coil machine, I don't think you would like any rotary for lining. But I myself loves the Stigma Hyper for lining. I think it rocks. But I was never a Hard Core Coil user. So my opinion is a bit different than someone that has been rocking big bold lines with a coil for years. I have seen that in areas on the body that are a bit harder to tattoo such as the ribs, you can pull lines better with a coil because it has that extra kick. But anyplace that is on the easier spectrum to tattoo such as the leg or on the arm I think a rotary does just fine when it comes down to lining, And the Stigma hasn't let me down yet.

RE:Outlines with rotary

Wise and insightful words Mike. I must admit I was first drawn to rotary machines because of the lighter weight, lack of noise and consistent performance (yes, I'm getting old!) and I find they perform many tasks very well. I guess it's the old 'different strokes' theory and a I generally don't buy into the one eyed rotary vs coils argument. Use whatever you're happy with I say. Now, I just happen to know where I can get my hands on a Hyper for a few days...
