stigma rotary for beginners?

hi there guys,
i'm still pretty new to tattooing and am preparing a portfolio at the moment as i will be going to los angeles to live with a friend while looking for an apprenticeship there. anyway, i did a 1-week course on tattooing 2 months back and it was very informative and part of it all was a kit with 2 machines, power supply, couple needles etc all the basics to get started...however, as u can imagine, the equipment is cheap chinese crap and i'm thinking about getting a stigma fly in a few months..be aware though that i'm still only practicing on pig skin and haven't tattooed anyone yet which is why i wanted to know from anybody if the stigmas or rotaries in general are not good for whatever reason for newbies. is it necessary to be an established artist in the biz, having worked with coil machines for years before making the switch to a rotary or something? i think mike even once said that the way he was taught from the beginning was with a rotary..but perhaps i don't recall well. any opinion will be appreciated. peace

Honestly, you should not even be worried about machines right now. If you truly are going after a legit apprenticeship, your future mentor does not want to have to correct bad habits, and misconceptions. Work on your portfolio(art), and develop a unique, or at least original style. Kill it. Read, study, draw, paint. Consider this, if you find a mentor, and he likes what you have to offer , what if he does not like rotary's , or only uses them. If he hates rotary, he will not be teaching you how to use it. Find a place, and then equip yourself accordingly. Also, shops are not going to want to see tattoos you have done, so if you have "tasted flesh" , don't throw it out there. Good Luck.

is this dude the dopest artist ever. is his work so mind blowing that you would be willing to pay for some of what he knows? if not, then you have your answer. if you wanna paypal me 50 bucks, ill send you a video on how to rinse your machine out to change colors, lol. seriously tho. if his art is beyond your expectations and you really want to learn from him, do you bro. but i personally think paying for an apprenticeship is fucking lame. if someone has the talent and potential, and i have the time, i would show him all i could. the only thing i would ask for in return other than some cleaning duties, would be be on time, be polite to the clients and just listen and learn. one of the guys i used to work with had an apprentice, and when my co worker was trying to teach this fucking knuckle head something, the kid said " but i was reading a forum and they said blah blah blah." im surprised my co worker didnt punch him in the face. lol.
