What happened?!?!

A friend of mine got a tattoo and I saw it about 2 days later and it actually looked like there was acouple lines in it that actually looked like cuts. I'm new to tattooing and have never had that happen and sure the hell don't ever want it to happen! What the hell did the guy do wrong?

RE:What happened?!?!

Ive seen this happen when a guy used a flat sideways. It cuts like a knife.

RE:What happened?!?!

Coulda been the tips of his liner tube may have been brand new or sharp and he cut the person diamond tips can do that I know nationals tubes are always sharp as he'll when u get em.

RE:What happened?!?!

Lining too slow or running your liner too fast will also do this.

What would be the proper speed? I'm assuming I'm ok but appreciate all the advice I can get. Thank you!

RE:What happened?!?!

That would depend on how fast you feel comfortable. Too fast for one person may not be too fast for someone else. It will come with experience. That's a subject that's hard to really get into over the internet.
I run my main liner at around 131 Hz, when measured by my power supply, if that helps at all.

RE:What happened?!?!

That does help thank you. I love how willing to give advice people are on here. I think mine is set fine but I just couldn't believe how aweful that tattoo looked and he's been tattooing awhile I think. Pretty sure it will scar and I just don't ever want to do that to someone. Thank you again so much ;)

RE:What happened?!?!

Another situation that may cause that is the needles could of had extreme barbed ends to them(fish hook ends) Always a good idea to check your needles with an eye loop before starting.

Thank you Mike!

RE:What happened?!?!

Yeah, be careful not to do that again! That kind of thing can ruin your career before it takes off... You may want to recommend Mederma or the like if there is scarring.

RE:What happened?!?!

No you gotta read the first post. I didn't do it, I wanted to know how it happened so I wouldn't do it. So far I've been just fine ;) But I will pass on the info about the scarring, thank you!
