My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

I dread being asked to do any work on hands because I've never had good experiences with them, but I hate to turn anyone away. So here's the rub...

I haven't had any problems with any tats to date...

...unless they are on a hand. Packs in nicely, looks great when completed, no tell of hard heals (and even on my own hand - went in beautifully, looked great, healed easy) and then once flaked off - hardly none of it took. WTF??? Any deeper and I'll get blow out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

dont worry man its not you its the hands, i was told skin on your hand regenerates something like 60% faster and thats what causes it to not hold.

i usually go over it again after it heals, sometimes even 3 times. it really all depends on the person, sometimes you get lucky

RE:My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

I tattooed a lucky rabbit's foot on my left hand. Looked great at first then I had a bad healing process. Overworked an area. A couple months later I hit it again. Looks better. Just recently tattooed a blk n gry realistic snake head on my hand next to the lucky rabbits foot. Looked fantastic after but then after it healed a lot of the ink did not stay on the skin flap between my index finger and thumb. It was hard to get a good stretch there and the needles basically bounced on the surface leaving the impression that it was saturated. Haven't tattooed another persons hand yet but I assume it's a lot easier then tattooing your own.

RE:My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

Appreciate the info and shared experiences. I thought I was fricken going crazy or something because everything else I do turns out great. I've since been doing a lot of reading up on the subject of hands and yes, difficult with this area seems to be the concensus - I'm really glad to know it wasn't something I was doing wrong as far as depth is concerned. I felt like Austin Powers - I though I lost my mojo.

RE:My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

i also find that rotary machines work better for hands, and try bugpin needles for lining. less trauma = better healing

RE:My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

im tired to heard that bug get better times heal,is not true,in fact is impossible to make a good line with bug pin.
to tattoo hands and foots you got to have a lot of experience, tattoo an hand is not for everybody.............
a rotary can make your live easy when you try a tattoo in hand because rotarys dont have slap
thats why rotarys is a good machine for make a tchiken tattoo,to get a real tattoo coils or die

LOL, Jason II is retarded as fuck

RE:My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

Jason II isn't necessarily retarded - he's just french and doesn't have a perfect handle of the english language. But I do think he is a little harsh by saying "coil or die". This isn't the kind of forum for that kind of immaturity. C'mon people - be civil - be intelligent - be adults.

Thank you all that give non-judgmental, grown up opinions, advise, and shared experiences.

RE:My Nemesis - Hand tattoos

coil or die is like a joke
what i mean is that a good coil machine make less skin trauma than any rotary,,in a rotary yuo can control the speed or duty cycle that is the key in the process.
but depend what you want from tattoo, photographic style you can tattoo with a rotary ,is fast smooth and no have no punch or slap
