bishop rotary setup question

Hey guys,

My boyfriend ordered a Bishop rotary for me for christmas and today was my first day of trying it out.
First tried it out for lining and it didn't seem to push any ink in at all and was running at about 9v. Then thought i would try it for shading as that is what i really wanted it for and when i had set up, the needle was was quite high up, not resting on the bottom of the tip and grip but resting at the top and shaking about quite a bit no down force although it was perfectly slotted in the needle slot? Then after thinking i had sorted that problem it still wouldn't even hit the skin hard enough what so ever and no ink was going in at all, customer said they couldn't feel a thing but was running at 9.5 as what was recommended, then tried about 8volts still nothing, then tried running it abit harder at 10/10.5 and still nothing at all. has anybody else had this problem?
my shop owner couldn't figure it out either? I have been tattooing now 4/5 months as i have only just finished my apprentice so am pretty new to it all still and this is my first rotary machine!! any help or tips would be great please thanks guys

It sounds like you need to put more of a bend on your needle bar to maintain the tension, if you're using it for mags, you can just bend the needles down at the solder.

check whether the grub screw on the cam is tight, had a machine like it once, worked but hardly any effort when loaded up, turned out the cam was slipping on the spindle a little....................

RE:bishop rotary setup question

Hello,
I work at the hut in piqua Ohio and I personally love my bishop. There isn't a better rotary out there for the price. But I will tell u this when outline use voltage 8 to 9 u never need go higher. When coloring or shading 77.5 to 8.5 that said when setting this machine up is different then coil. Put the needle flush with the bottom of the tube but be careful cause u will be using the needle as u r guide not the tube. Hold up machine at an exaggerated 45 and the lines should be bold solid one pass. Now mags are a bit different. U want the full down length to be about 3\ 16 that's fully coming out which means u r mags will be retracting about the same inside u r tube but since it's needle clip there will be minimal rub on the Tube itself hope this helps.
