Help

I'm a beginner tattoo artist, trying to learn as much as i can, i cant seem to learn how to use the shaders properly, especially the magnums, i dont know what i'm doing wrong..i got a small tattoo kit offline from amazon, and it came with some cheap, watered down ink, so i ordered some more..I'm using Prizm ink now, i love how the outlines are turning out with it but like i said before, when it comes to the light colors and the different shaders i cant seem to get it right..i dont know whether its the set up or just how im handling the gun when i do the shades, they end up dark and blotchy....what would be ur advise?

RE:Help

My advice would be to get a real machine/power supply, and a legit setup before you tattoo. kits are a joke and your only gonna screw up your customers skin. You get what you pay for. If you want to learn to get good with mags, I suggest you do a lot of painting with chisel tip brushes. Very similar to the way you turn and angle the edges of a mag. Also if you went cheap on machines, I'm guessing you went cheap on needles. Your not gonna see good work with kits. Get some artists DVDs an watch them 100 times. Watch hand motion, angle, setup, etc.... Work on your art more than your tattooing. If its meant to be and your a skilled artist, things will begin to fall in place! Honestly in the future, if you want help ask an intelligent question. This isn't a scratchers paradise.

RE:Help

I meant in terms of asking a legit question and you will get a legit answer. Not just things like, my lines suck, what am I doing wrong. Or I bought a tattoo kit, how do I use it...

RE:Help

I've been tattooing almost 20 years and find this site pretty helpful quite often. So what if it helps some scratchers as well, they're gonna do what they're gonna do anyway. Might as well be as educated as they can be so they arent messing people up.

RE:Help

I'm with ostattoo, the guys who are going out of their way and seeking out help obviously care about what they're doing, and want to learn to do things the right way even if they're going about it completely wrong. So I don't put them in the same category as the dirty bums. They're not going to inconvenience themselves or spend a single penny they don't have to. Those guys you just can't help, so I won't even waste my time. But a newbie with an open mind, a bucket full of willingness, and art in their heart I will help in any way I can. These are the guys who will take our advice, so I feel it is my responsibility to try to guide them in the right direction. Teach them about safety, sterilization, cleanliness, proper equipment, proper practice, proper technique (pretty much in that order). 9 times out of 10 those who are truly seeking advice will take it. These are the guys we can help and get them on the path to doing it right, so why not try.
