stroke

Hi there, I am tattoing since two years and now I am looking for new machines...thinking about a coil one from Micky Sharpz and/a singray dragonfly. Could someone explain me what is the deal with the stroke? Which one is better for lines and which one for coloring and as shader? Sorry for the bad english.

RE:stroke

Well, here's my understanding. The stroke length provides versatility in the machine. The higher the stroke, the harder it hits. So for instance, 4.0 mm is the standard cam in the stingray X2. You'd probably use that for lining. You can buy a cam that's 2.6 mm, which would be smoother and you'd probably use that for shading. Anything in between, could be a colour packer. But that's your prerogative.
Some machines have interchangeable cams to enlist different stroke lengths, such as the stingray. Some also may be altered without changing parts, such as some stigma rotaries or spektra edge (cartridge machine, however.) Those are just the ones I know of, as I'm sure there are more. I personally don't have experience with the spektra edge, but I love my hyper V3 from stigma. I literally call it "ol' reliable".
And speaking from personal experience, and this is my experience alone and I'm sure others have had better outcomes... I honestly wish I went for a machine other than the stingray. The manufacturer have extremely poor customer service, and have yet to help me with the numerous problems I've been having with my stingray X2. Both myself and my distributor are quite annoyed. My experience with inkmachines honestly may be an isolated incident, so I have no intention of bad mouthing them, merely relaying my thoughts of the matter.

Good luck!

RE:stroke

Thanks Sir, I really appreciate the help! I am thinking about to order the dragon and stingray...but my problem is, i have noone to show me how the configuration of the dragon works...someone told me, that without the basic know-how about the rotary it will be shit to work with it and make shit in the skin...some damage etc. I mean...what is the difference between the stroke/configuration from the rotary and the "given" from the coil? thanks!
