coils and or rotary...thats the question

Hi,

I am thinking about to order a dragonfly or a stingray...but my problem is, i have noone to show me how the configuration of the dragon works...someone told me, that without the basic know-how about the rotary it will be shit to work with it and make shit in the skin...some damage etc. I mean...what is the difference between the stroke/configuration from the rotary and the "given" from the coil? and about the know-how for Rotary and the Problems for the first work with it? thanks! I appreciate the help!

I understand your first language isn;t english, that said it still sounds to me like you are very new to this.
So let me try and explain a little bit, and then you'll have to put in the effort to get some books and watch plenty of online videos on your own.

A coil machine is an ancient device that is simply tried and true. It takes plenty of time tinkering to get to know them. BUT a well built coil can always be fixed and often adjusted somewhat to your own taste.
Rotaries run one way, with or with out a "give" adjustment, and what is built is what you get. The attractive part of rotary machines are the consistant cadance and hit. allowing you to focus on the hand speed and relationship the ink and skin are developing during the tattoo.
Both are good, but for a beginner you will have a better foundation getting to know coils first.
please buy yourself "reinventing the tattoo"
and read all the posts here, read more then ask questions.
youtube has good and bad vids, you'll have to be the judge

RE:coils and or rotary...thats the question

yes, all spaulding information is outdated. I know them all personally, and i still go into thier supply shop and buy a few things here and there. But never thier inks or machines.
I have a spaulding and rodgers bulldog that i rebuilt a few times and it still dosn't work right. so it's in the parts bin.

Go ahead and try a rotary, dragonflies are nice, but i would start with something more like a bishop/stealth. box style.

frictiontattoo has some higher quality mid-grade machines like these.
