Coils for realism?

Just wondering if anyone uses coil machines for more realistic pieces? It seems all of the realism guys are using rotary. I was just wondering, Im just now getting into realism, and rotaries. I've got 2 bishops, a neotat vivace and a Hawk. I am wondering because I LOVE my coils, and I would love to bring my coils into the realism journey with me lol.

How do you later with zero give rotaries like the hawk,? I've no problem with coils or adjustable give rotaries like my dragonfly, but for the life in me I just can't get to grips with the Hawks as much as I'd love to for using the cartridges . I just end up with unsmooth looking work with bad heals, what's the trick? I see loads of people doing great work with multiple passes so I've gotta be missing something ? I like to open up the skin and then gently graze it to build up that's my technique atm

Thanks

hey, sure you can use coils for any style of tattooing. the trick to it all is really knowing and understanding your machines.you really have to learn the feel of how a certain machine runs all to many times we tend to buy ,buy ,buy new machines with out truly working with one machine for too long.most tattooist buy a machine for a certain propose and that's great but they never learn that machine so they move on to the next best thing.i would say take one of your machines and use it on the daily and don't get frustrated with it really learn how it hits and listen to your tools. sounds kind of strange but sometimes as artist you have to think like one. i run coils and know all of them inside and out i can tell within a minute if it is preforming correctly.no two tattooists tattoo the same way so you cant buy a machine that will run the way you want it too. you as a artist have to learn that machine and adjust yourself to it.over time with that machine your mind will learn how to use it with no problems. its basically the same way with drawing, painting and all art. remember it is art your art so there is no right or wrong. hope this helps
