Machine won't run

I took apart and old machine. Next generation with the short coils. So after I cleaned it and put it back together it won't run. I checked for exposed wires, and nothing. The armature bar goes down and sticks to the coils but that's it, that's all it does and the coils burn hot. Any ideas on why it's doing that?

hey,sounds like the spring , armature bar, and contact screw are all out of wack. if the armature bar is to close to the coils because of the contact screw pushing the spring forward to hard then this happens. or if the spring is bent to the wrong position . either way you will have to do some tuning to get it back to where it belongs. also you my want to make sure that all the screws in the frame are not shorting out next gen machines have the screws wrapped with shrink tubing and sometimes the threads can cause a short when you put them back together. hope this helps

I figured out the problem and I feel stupid. Turned out I forgot to put the fiber washer outside of the front binding post. Now it's runs beautifully. Such a simple little thing I didn't notice
