another neuma question

mike do you think coil machines limit my tattooing? do you think im better off switching to air when ive been using coils? i know theres good and bad points to both machines and its a hard question to answer, but in your honest opinion is it worth me spending all that money and upgrading to air? i dont want to spend all that cash and end up with the same results im getting with coils if you know what i mean?

:) chris.

It would be hard for me to say without seeing your work or knowing the type of work you do,if you would like you can post a link to your myspace or an online portfolio and i'll check it out,and give you my opinion.

im friends with you on facebook, my names chris lewis, i work in a busy high street shop so i do alot of what i call bread and butter tattoos , names on wrists butterflys etc but i do get the odd chance to do realism and this is what i enjoy the most so im trying to make it my niche if you get what im saying? how long did it take before you were recognised for your portrait work? i dream of just doing portrait work allday everyday!

RE: another neuma question

By switching tattoo machines,i don't think anyone can expect there work to change over night, and what i mean by that is most of the time it's not the machine that is gonna make or break you, like the saying goes;If you give the best tattoo artist in the world the worst running machine he'll still be able to deliver a good tattoo, and the same goes for if you give the worst artist the best running tattoo machine, hell still deliver a poorly executed tattoo. Now I'm not saying this is your case but as far as you making the investment only to see huge results in your work could be a mistake. But i do know the Neuma helps me achieve what i want my work to look like, and i have a bunch of coils,Hyper Stigmas, tried the Hawk,i think it's good to have a diverse collection of tattoo machines and see for your self what helps you deliver.I would say make the investment if you can afford it and your willing to give it a chance, where your at at this point after looking at your work you could benefit from it,i usually tell guys that do black and gray and that have been tattooing for many years with coil machines to stick with coils,or if all you do is traditional work with alot of line work to stick with coils. But if your someone that wants to do more color realism, or you do all different types of tattoos, fairly new to the game or have been struggling with your coils,or just wanna try something new,why not invest and have a different tool in your drawer to pull out every now and then.In my case i use Neuma for most of my work but every now and then ill pull out coils if i'm doing something that calls for it.

cool i understand what your saying, i think im going to stick with my coils for now, maybe if my work evolves and i get to do more realism i might make the jump to neumas, thanks for replying tho man its good to see that even tho your so big in the scene you still take the time to help out the little guy, big respect for that

RE: another neuma question

What do you think would be the best way to set the hybrid up to come close to a coils for black and grey 1 or 2 passes,,, leaning more towards a ss fast pace..... Bugpins? Soft or medium cushion? Working in a a more opaque manner of washes? Im diggin playin with the bugpins all dayyyyy!!! Mithra regular size seem to get it done almost better and faster?,,,.... My mind is set to explode.. big up.. mr t

RE: another neuma question

For black and gray i like the short stroke Neuma, soft cushion, and bug pins,it does seem like you could get things done faster with other types of needles but the bug pins really do help with keeping those tattoos smooth.
