Was just wondering if you Mike or anyone has given this machine a try or know anything about it.From my research on it they claim that the new one(Gen.7) has give to it now and it runs real smooth and quite.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

I placed a order with these guys at Gen7 and paid, and got no reply. I wrote them several times and no reply. Turns out they lost my order, and I missed the first shipment and had to wait for a second order...then the machine did not get to me in the mail when they said it would, i had to write them again...they told me it got lost in the mail and should be here soon....

anyone else got trouble with this company or was it just my bad luck?

I should have just got another Stigma Hyper after all this.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

I would be surprised and disappointed if anyone experienced what 'anonymous' has with his Swashdrive order.
Swashdrive's order system is virtually automated and machines are usually sent out the day the order is received.
If no machines are available, which is rare, the buyer is notified asap.
Yes, I am associated with with Swashdrive and am wondering if 'anonymous' could be associated with Hyper?
I'm far from comfortable with posts that appear to be criticizing one company and advertising another (Swashdrive/Hyper) and they really shouldn't appear on discussion boards of this caliber.

message for Aussie Pete
My name is Artemis from Stigma , I just want to make clear that anonimous has nothing to do with Stigma , we don't know who it is.
It looks like he has a complaint on Swashdrive not on Stigma Hyper.
So do not mix up things !

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

My apologies to both Artemis and 'anonymous'.
I spoke to Tony at Quality Tattoo Machines/Swashdrive and he said there was a mix up with a customer when the Gen 7 was first released.
There was lot of interest shown in the new machine with orders and emails for them far outstripping supply. Unfortunately, an order did go astray and that could have been the one from 'anonymous'. Tony has again apologized for the inconvenience and the glitch has since been addressed.
This humble pie tastes real sweet!
Peace.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

The normal rotary motor set up for a tattoo machine moves the needle. The needle movement is not totally smooth with accelleration and a stopping point at the top and at the bottom of any one movement.

Swasplate technology provides for a much smoother needle movement. This was explained to me in detail by a guy from Maxon motors in Australia who seems to know a lot about maxon driven rotary tattoo machines.

The Stigma is also driven by swashplate technology. I am really trying to find out if this smoothness is a big difference as compared with say the Neo Tat. Using the Neo Tat for lining for instance a tight 5 is needed where coils use a 3 and a tight 8 is needed where coils use a 5. I don't think this is necessary for the swasdrive but am interested to hear more from Stigma users.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

Hi! I have been useing both the swashdrive gen 7 and the stigma hyper and I must say that they are quite simular. I prefer the swashdrive since i think it workes better for lower volts and gives a little bit smoother shades especially the black and grey work. And the needle movment is not as consicvently strait in motion on the stigma hyper. They are both great machines, as is the new dragonfly from inkmachines.com.

In my opinion the swashdrive 7 is a super liner and a more versetile machine than the stigma hyper, but a little more vibrating, especially when useing disposable grips.

The dragonfly machine I haven´t tried so much to really give a good reveiw on but for now it seens to do just about the same things as the other two.

This one is done with a swashdrive and a 17 bugpin curved needle.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

Thanks Mike,

Love it!

Swashplate technology seems to work better than the normal rotary action.

I hope that a normal supply of Stigma's soon will be established - I assume they are busy producing machines at the moment. Once it has settled dow we will give it a try, the bizarre sounds pretty good on all accounts.

The Gen7 is currently sold out at Tattoo Ink Supplies in Australia and should be available the next couple of weeks so they seem do be doing ok indicating the machines are popular at the moment.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

If the Gen7 Swashdrive vibrates more than the Bizarre, that would be a real worry and would certainly make me think twice. I understand the Swasdrive is made from polyamide material and would this be the reason for more vibration

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

I have used the gen 7. great little machine. super light. smooth, quiet as hell and low vibration. the soft give clip is great for 7 and 9 mags. soft blending and building. the solid clip is really necessary for larger mags which is the only drawback. it backs off too much with larger groups. the gen 8 will probably adress this. have been using swashdrives and all types of rotaries and electric, pneumatic for 10 years. swashdrive goes above and beyond with materials, quality and craftsmanship.

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

The more I talk to people who are well informed, the more I get the impression that the Swashdrive Gen7 is a very, very good machine. The machine is total quality and purpose and is certainly built for long term continuous use. I feel very comfortable with that. Vibration does not seem to a problems at all.

I don't want to be critical of other brands so I will not discuss some of the things I am hearing, but I do know that the Gen7 is a very long lasting machine with virtually nil maintenance for many years to come and that is becoming more and more important.

I hear also good reports about the Hawk but everyone I talk to is put off by the cassette needles - mainly lack of choice and too expensive.

The Dragonfly seems to be pretty good as well and is anybody is using that machine please let us know what you think

Traduction (français > anglais)
Hey,
I use the gen swashdrive 7 from a few months and I find it really accurate, lightweight and flexible!
But as regards the setting of voltage, I do not know the optimal setting!
Someone would have any advice to give me the power setting with a needle tracer 9 for example or a filling needle 18?
Thank you all

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

Is it true the swashdrive has to be ran on its own seperate "swashdrive" power supply?
top of page

RE:Gen. 7 Swashdrive

No mate, thats not true. I have a dual unit power supply and I checked with Tony at Swashdrive before purchase as to whether I need to upgrade for the swashdrive and he said it pretty much works with anything and that mine would be fine. I run my swashie and neotats from the same unit without any trouble at all. When i told him I was thinking of upgrading my power unit, he gave me a link to one that was not affiliated with them at all and that they do not sell. So you definitely dont need a special power unit.
On the note of Swashdrive gen 7, it is a truly beautiful machine to add to your collection. I have only been using mine for a year, but my fondness grows with every tattoo.
