lining with stigma

Hey Mike!
Great works, great forum :)

I just bought myself a stigma hyper 2 on a convention here in sweden, and still havent been able to try it, because this semester i am studying art at art college in a town away from my home and my studio.
Im just curious about the liningtechnique with the stigma, can u tell me about diferrences from my (for example) Lauro Paolini quickli liner? The guy i bought the stigma from said that it's probably most interesting still using the coils for lining and then shade and pack with the stigma. But, even tho you're not basing your tattoos in lines, you still line with the hyper?

I could also add that i've never tattooed with a rotary at all before, and been tattooing full time for 4 years in a studio.

Thanks man! : )

RE:lining with stigma

Hey man. I had one of the original hypers and couldn't get on with it for lining. I've got a bizarre now, which are supposed to be better for lining than the hypers, but I'm not keen on that either so still use coils for all my line work...

In fact over the years I've found a lot of people stick to coils for lining.

When Joe Capobianco got his Stigmas I asked him how he got on with lining and he said he found he had to run it quite quick.. just over 9v I think he said, move quite slow and ride the tube a lot more than he would normally.

I personally prefer a soft hitting long throw liner so guess a rotary is never going to sit right for me and I've not bothered trying it again.

I would never part with my stigmas though. I don't use anything else for colouring and shading and it's been like that for a couple of years now. :)

RE:lining with stigma

I like the Stigma Hyper for lining, I actually like it a lot, if you look at my newer work I have been lining a lot more than usual, although the lines might not be extremely visible, they are there. But more often then not you will hear guys saying stick with coils for lining, but its all preference.

RE:lining with stigma

thanks for the reply Mike!
when it comes to numbers and stuff, do you increase voltage for lining? and do you run it stiff (give screw) or loose?

thanks again man, you rawk! : )

RE:lining with stigma

I normally will increase the voltage a little bit, and i don't mess with the screw in the back to often, I keep it it unscrewed a couple turns and I keep it that way for everything.
