Drawing better

Hi Mike, my names Johnny and I really want to get better at drawing. I'm pretty good at drawing in graphite and I just bought some prismacolor pencils and markers but I have no idea what I'm doing with them. I really want to be able to draw color portraits like yourself and other things to but I have no idea how to start. Do you have any advice on this?

Hey Johnny404, My advise to you is to buy a couple things and then practice practice. On www.ReflectedArt.com there is a DVD by Tony Ciavarro that shows how he draws and shows how he colors with his Prismacolor pencils. This will show you how to use the tools he uses and probably will help you out, now his style is more cartoony but there is a couple other DVDs on the website too, one called Drawing the Male Portrait and the other is Dynamic Figure drawing. I think a combination of these DVDs might be exactly what your looking for. You could also find some helpful books at your local book store or art store. Good luck

RE:Drawing better

If your serious about drawing better, I would consider taking a coupel of drawing and painting classes at your local communitty college (figure painting if its avaliabel). some good books to check out would be "George Bridgemans guide to figure drawing" "Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth," Anthony Ryder has a awsome book and website. http://www.theryderstudio.com/RSS/Welcome.html
Other artist to check out "Nelson Shanks" Robert LIberace" "Steve Huston" and "Frank Frazetta" as far as color pencils there are diffrent types such as (Prismacolor) "very thins' and "standard" so technique will change depending on the pencil. Papper is not to be overlooked ethier. pick up a book or find a good website on color theory because thats what will make your work "pop" when useing color pencils.
